January 2017 News | TVWritersVault.com

Greetings Writers & Producers!

Happy New Year! We're out of the gate for 2017 and things could not be more exciting at the TV Writers Vault. With executives back from holiday, we're seeing a lot of action from companies scouting pitches, and members already making connections with Producers pursuing their projects. Drama Series pitches are getting a lot of traction with Producers hoping to find the next great binge-worthy series, and of course reality series pitches are finding connections for new creators pitching ideas in our market.

For those of you with original concepts for new game shows, we're pleased to present the "Next Hit Game Show" format competition (sponsored by FinalDraft, and presented by tvwritersvault.com, llc). We're very excited to have the involvement of Global Creative Director for NBCUniversal International, Rafi Nizam, as he joins our panel to judge the finalists. Additional Executive Producers on panel to judge and select the Winner are being finalized. Beyond the first-look from our industry panel for consideration, I'll be offering one person a development deal to shop the winning format to buyers, along with other prizes awarded to the finalists. Check out details further below, and get your clever concepts in the mix.

A special congratulations to our most recent Writer/Members getting direct Contact Requests from Producers scouting their pitches in our marketplace: Richard Dana Brown (Raleigh, NC), Tom Galt (Sherman Oaks, CA), Joseph Pignataro (Glenville, NY) Holly Long (San Anselmo, CA), Keith Moy (Rowland Heights, CA), Gary Knight (Fort Mill, SC) Kari Doll (Bozeman, MT), Logan Gaddis (Duncanville, TX), and Miguel Catellier (Saskatchewan, CAN). Those, in addition to the many others connecting their TV pitches with producers at our platform for more than a decade has made us the most efficient and direct path for new producers and creators to get pitches sold, and we thank all of you for supporting our service.

Lastly, I'm always pleased to hear from new writers and producers with questions about pitching and selling ideas for TV. I invite you to join me at ScottManville.com for an evolving conversation on creating and pitching ideas for television and film. POST YOUR QUESTIONS AT ANY ARTICLE THERE and I'll respond in detail.

We wish each of you a very happy and healthy 2017!

Yours Truly,

Scott Manville

Next Hit Game Show Idea Contest

I'm Scott Manville, TV Producer and former head of development for legendary game show production company Merv Griffin Entertainment. If you've got a mind for game, love game shows, and have a creative drive for cooking up clever concepts, then enter the Next Hit Game Show format competition set to discover and develop an original game show idea for television. I'm partnering with other top producers to scout and discover a new breakout game format for TV, and we want to consider yours.

Update: Global Creative Director for NBCUniversal International, Rafi Nizam, joins panel to judge finalists for "Next Hit Game Show" format competition. We're finalizing our other executives to be involved and will update at site shortly.

Each pitch submitted will be reviewed for originality, viability, and entertainment value. One Winner will be chosen. The creator of the winning format will receive a $3000 prize package as part of a development deal proposal (including on-screen credit and per episode fees and other participation to be negotiated) for development of the format with a partnered company. Registration Is Now Open. Entrants may submit a written description of their game show format/concept, and may also include any video reel or additional media to support the pitch.
NOT JUST ANOTHER CONTEST - A Partnership With The Right Producers:
Game shows are very clever, but clear, once the format is locked in. However, the process of pitching, developing, and implementing that vision is both a creative and technical skill. I've sold pitches for game show formats in the room to Dick Clark Productions, Nash Entertainment, and many others. We're now looking for the next hit game show idea that will go the distance. Bringing my history of game format development, key studio/producers we'll be aligning with for this process, along with your winning game show format, our competition will deliver what we believe to be the NEXT HIT GAME SHOW for television. We wish all of our entrants the best of success. Thank you for allowing us to consider your creative work.
Upon engagement with the Winning creator, we'll then develop the format and pitch it to the appropriate major cable networks and major networks. Our network panelist/judges will have first look, along with our executive producers on panel. VISIT FILMFREEWAY for more info and to enter.

"A television series does not come into existence without it first being an "idea" that is compelling enough to drive the entire development, production and marketing process. Ideas open doors, fuel the development process, and ultimately connect with viewers. It is that core concept or "idea" a new writer or producer pitches that inspires a production company to dedicate resources for developing it. When that idea moves to the network or studio level, often with a "proof of concept" pitch reel produced, it is still that core "idea" that drives the project's potential as development executives must communicate compelling details efficiently with their bosses, and so on up the ladder. Ideas are the life blood of our industry." - scott manville

"...It's all about the beginning of the process, the idea stage."
- Rod Perth, former CEO, National Association Television Program Executives
